Alpine MDF Theatre

The theatre accommodates 530 people, including 154 in the balcony, in tiered seating, providing a warm, intimate atmosphere. It is the perfect venue for theatrical productions, as well as seminars, presentations and musical performances.

Two pianos are available for use - one, a Steinway Model D concert grand. In 1963, the Wangaratta Arts Council and the Wangaratta City Council purchased the Steinway for £5,000. Now insured for $250,000, it is thought by many to be the world’s finest. It is noted particularly for its wonderful range and even tone, and a smooth and responsive touch.

Preserving such a unique and valuable instrument requires special care and storage. Wangaratta’s Steinway is protected by a padded felt cover and stored in a special climate controlled room, which maintains a constant ambient temperature of 27°C.

The theatre is proudly sponsored by Alpine MDF Industries.
